Construction of a new Wakefield Street building at Christian Brothers College in Adelaide began in late 2017. The new three-storey building will be a centre for science, technology, art and music and will incorporate a rooftop outdoor classroom with a garden for growing vegetables, equipment to measure the building’s energy use and an astronomical observation dome.

The steel-framed building has composite concrete floors and a piled raft footing. One of the major features of the building is the glass fibre reinforced ‘ribbon’ façade. The crystallographic theme is a reference to the building as a multi-functional science and technology centre. The ribbon runs the length of the building and incorporates a large cantilevered canopy marking the main entrance to the building.

WGA provided civil, structural and geotechnical engineering services for the project which is scheduled to be completed in 2019.
