WGA was engaged to design the permanent Anti-Throw Screens for ten existing bridges along Southern Adelaide’s Southern Expressway. Installation of the screens is now complete.
The Southern Expressway was built over two separate projects, several years apart. Although there was some commonality between the ten bridges, they were geometrically different, each with unique features and geometry. This meant that each Anti-throw screen had to be individually designed for each bridge. WGA’s laser scanning capability was used to capture a full 3 dimensional point cloud for each bridge in order to confirm as constructed bridge geometry. This was considered of high value by the construction contractor, McConnell Dowell in order to mitigate risk in terms of steelwork detailing, the ability to meet tight delivery time frames as well as minimising road closure times to reduce disruption to the public.
