WGA’s Maritime team has assisted with the investigation into an incident that occurred on the Army Jetty on Rottnest Island late last year. Our work focused on the direct structural mode of a failure of a deck plank, and our report contributed to a broader investigation undertaken by KPMG and tabled in Parliament earlier this year.
Our report provided recommendations for the future of the asset, which included options for safely demolishing the existing deteriorated deck panels whilst maintaining some level of public amenity to the popular tourist spot. Together with the Rottnest Island Authority, we managed to demolish the existing structure and remediate the remaining rock groyne all before the busy 2018/2019 festive period.
