WGA has announced the acquisition of resources specialist consultancy Inception Group to become one of the only engineering companies to offer full-service capabilities.

Founded in Adelaide, Inception Group has operated globally for over a decade delivering consulting solutions primarily in mining and metals. This union will allow both companies to broaden capabilities and offer clients a fully integrated service.

Inception Group was founded in 2012 and has worked with clients including BHP, Boss Energy, Alligator Energy, Australian Rare Earths and Rio Tinto offering process engineering, data analytics and mining advisory solutions across a range of minerals including gold, uranium, iron ore, copper, lithium, nickel, phosphates and rare earths. This acquisition means we can offer a new integrated service across Australia and internationally, with the aim of expanding team resources to service client demand as required. The existing Inception team will continue business as usual through the smooth transition from the 8th February 2022 with no resulting day-to-day impact on client and project delivery.

The merger enables us to strengthen and diversify our offering as we celebrate our 40th anniversary in 2022. With capabilities across the building, civil infrastructure, defence & space, water, energy and resources. The integration of Inception Group expands WGA’s offering to provide end-to-end engineering solutions to the emerging and mid-tier mining sector while strengthening relationships with major industry players.

Peter James, Director and Head of WGA’s Resources and Industrial Sector says “This merger is an exciting new chapter in the WGA story, with process engineering and data analytics allowing us to service clients at the very beginning of their projects. The strategic integration provides the Australian and International resources sector with a much needed agile, employee-owned firm that can now provide complete engineering and project management services from our growing workforce of 450.

From working together it was very clear our ‘easy to work with’ client-based approach was common across both Inception and WGA and our internal cultures are based on great people forming open, honest and trusting relationships with their fellow employees and their clients. Our common drive to provide innovative solutions to challenging projects and develop long term collaborative relationships is what makes this partnership so valuable to our current and future clients”.

A team of 18 from Inception will now be employed directly by WGA, bringing fresh skills and experience that will complement and enhance our existing proposition. These professionals will have access to increased opportunities for career enhancement at WGA, including its internal and external training programs and a suite of systems and technology devised to increase efficiencies.

WGA’s Process Engineering Team will be led by James Davidson Technical Director Process Engineering, Conrad Wilkins Process Engineering Manager and Jon Weir Technical Director Metallurgy. Complementing this, our Data Analytics Team will be led by Jess Page as Manager Data Analytics.

“Inception has grown to a point where a broadening of multi-discipline engineering and the introduction of offices in different geographical locations was required. The acquisition by WGA supports this strategic vision, with an established client base across Australia and New Zealand. WGA will now have access to Inception’s existing client base and industry capability to further grow its well-established business across many markets. As WGA, we look forward to providing a complete multi-discipline project offering to our existing and new clients with genuine, valuable and consistent project management and engineering of their projects.” Conrad Wilkins, Process Engineering Manager

Operating across Australia and New Zealand, WGA will become one of the only engineering companies to offer full-service capabilities, with the inclusion of process engineering adding another string to our bow.

“Our people are excited to apply their capabilities in new sectors at WGA and be a leader in engineering data analytics across Australia and New Zealand” adds Jess Page, Group Data Analytics Lead.

This is an exciting milestone for WGA and we look forward to working with our clients to provide a fully integrated service.
