Alex Carneiro
Associate - Senior Structural Engineer

With a special interest in concrete design, and post-tensioning technologies and systems, Alex’s innate ability to work across a diverse range of disciplines has strengthened her success as a consulting engineer for over 20 years.

In her role as Associate and Senior Structural Engineer with WGA, Alex is responsible for the design, documentation and construction supervision of a variety of projects including commercial, institutional, multi-storey residential, health, educational, retail, industrial and domestic projects. She has a wide range of technical capabilities and a talent for conceptualising solutions for large complex situations that employ practical, cost-effective engineering designs. Alex recognises the importance of sharing her skills and experience with others and takes an active role in and training junior engineers at WGA.

Citing that adapting to new technology and remaining competitive is a challenge for the industry moving forward, Alex is most proud of her work as a project engineer on the University of South Australia’s Jeffrey Smart Building. The state of the art building showcases her dedication to overcoming these challenges by utilising her expertise in adaptive design. The result being a 5 Star Green Star rating building that employs new and innovative technologies, materials and processes to deliver a positive, and lasting impact on the environment for future generations.

Alex’s desire to create an impact on the environment and community is also highlighted in her role as a project engineer for the Royal Flying Doctor Service’s Adelaide Base building. This purpose-built medical and aviation facility, which includes a six-aircraft hangar, aeromedical base, enhanced patient care facility and 2 storey office building, has been designed to generate operational efficiencies that allow for 24/7 emergency retrieval services to all areas of South Australia.
