Adelaide Zoo

The Adelaide Zoo is a major tourist attraction located in the heart of the city’s CBD. The upgrade was undertaken to improve the aesthetic of the entry forecourt precinct, and provide new purpose-built facilities for Wang Wang and Funi, two giant pandas from China. With conservation and the environment central to the client brief, the project employed many Environmentally Sustainable Design (ESD) initiatives and best practice Water Sensitive Urban Design (WSUD) techniques.  The development of a stormwater management plan by WGA took into consideration key issues associated with the location of the site, which is directly adjacent to two significant watercourses – the River Torrens and First Creek.
