Galiwin'ku Water Tank
Off the coast of Arnhem Land in the Northern Territory lies Elcho Island. Galiwin'ku is the largest Aboriginal community on the island with a population of over 2000 and one of the largest in the Northern Territory.
WGA undertook the civil, hydraulic and structural design of an upgrade to a tank compound, to suit the installation of a proprietary 2ML (21.3m x 5.6m) water tank to support population growth and ensure reliable potable water supply for a thirty-year design horizon. The project scope included footings, a bespoke aluminium roof designed for cyclonic conditions, rationalisation and augment of tank compound pipework and hydraulic infrastructure.
We provided the detailed design together with construction management services to the ultimate client, Power and Water Corporation, and also provided construction phase engineering support to the contractor, Aboriginal-owned Yingwati Pty Ltd.
