Memorial Drive Tennis Centre
WGA provided geotechnical, structural and civil engineering for the newly redeveloped Memorial Drive Tennis Centre including the new single span woven fibreglass membrane fabric roof covering the existing stands and centre courts. At its longest, the roof spans 70m resulting in a challenging but rewarding design.
This roof allows the venue to host international standard tournaments, such as the Adelaide International, as well as providing a venue for year-round training.
We also provided heavy lift demolition engineering for the removal of the existing roof structures in preparation for the new roof. The roof needed to be removed in a single dual crane lift so that the stands below could be retained.
This project has been exciting to work on as the upgrade is both allowing Adelaide to be seen on an international stage and changing the landscape of tennis in South Australia. It’s also a great addition to the Riverbank Precinct in which WGA has also been involved in multiple projects including Adelaide Oval Redevelopment and Riverbank Lighting.
