The Project

As part of the Whyalla Steelworks transformation project, WGA was engaged to undertake a feasibility study for a new High Voltage supply to the Whyalla steelworks. The new supply to feed a proposed Structural Mill, Electric ARC furnace and associated steelmaking plant.

The study included power reticulation for the new plant and included a new main 33kV and 11kV distribution and switchrooms for the new plant.

Technical Solutions

WGA’s electrical team worked with the Electric Arc furnace vendors to identify the power load and power system impacts introduced by the new electric arc furnace equipment and the mitigation measures to meet point of supply power quality requirements. Investigation of existing power system strength and quality to develop a suitable solution

Client Focus

Development of options for supply to a proposed electric ARC furnace and new structural mill as part of the Whyalla Transformation project team.
