WGA was engaged to provide structural services on the Adelaide Airport terminal development and the civil, structural and traffic services on the subsequent landside precinct project. The terminal upgrade included the construction of a 78,000m2 multi-user, integrated terminal building over three levels servicing both domestic and international carriers, with a 700m concourse and 14 aerobridges.

The landside precinct development included:

  • Development of a landscaped plaza area for passenger amenity
  • Upgrade of the existing road network, including new a roundabout, one kilometre of new roads and new taxi and bus facilities
  • Construction of a 2,000-space multi-storey, short term car park, which can be doubled in size as demand increase.

We adopted advanced traffic engineering software AIMSUM and LEGION, to provide the client and the whole design team with active visualisations of the operation of a range of design options. Our design team needed to ensure that all aspects of the infrastructure could be easily expanded to accommodate forecast volume increases over the next 20 years.
