WGA provided design services for the winch base and hauling arrangement to pull the ex.HMAS Success up a 1 in 24 slipway. The vessel had an overall length of 157 meters and a displacement of roughly 4000 tonnes.
In addition to design of the winch base and rigging gear, WGA designed an equalising beam to allow two parallel winches to reach a combined pull capacity of 600t, a trunnion slotted through the vessel and associated internal vessel side wall strengthening to support trunnion loads. We were involved in the tidal dependent stage planning to haul the vessel out of the water using rolling airbags.
