WGA was engaged to design and manufacture two off type “D” patrol boat cradles in early October 2016 prior to the Cyclone season in Darwin commencing late December. The cradles are used to lift the boats from and into the water, and required upgrading to accommodate a new class of Armidale Class Patrol Boat.
Constrained time schedules and the site location presented challenges. The project involved over 6,000km of transport, 3 weeks of on-site works, 8 weeks of engineering drafting, fabrication, painting, NDT inspections and quality control, totalling over 7,000 productive hours, all delivered without incident. WGA provided design upgrade, engineering, delivery and practical completion of the two cradles ahead of schedule in 11 weeks, through proactive stakeholder engagement and communication which was key in ensuring all compliance requirements and acceptance criteria were met.
