The project involved the upgrading of 11km of Port Keats Road (from Yellow Creek Crossing to Saddle Rail Crossing) to improve its flood immunity and provide better access to the communities, farms and mining operations to the west of Daly River in the NT. The upgrades will raise the road level at flood-prone areas, sealing and construction of a 45m long bridge. WGA undertook:
- Detailed design and documentation for the upgrade of 11km of Port Keats Road and a 45m long bridge.
- Preparation of construction tender documents.
- Preparation of separate Design Reports for the road upgrade and 2 bridges
We investigated a number of flood immunity scenarios (for different storm events, e.g. 1-year average return interval (ARI), 2-year ARI and 5-year ARI) by undertaking hydrologic/hydraulic modelling. The exercise also included the investigation of the different types of hydraulic structures and protection works and provision of cost estimates for the different upgrade options.
