Located at the Royal Darwin Hospital campus, the $12m Alan Walker Cancer Centre is the first specialised oncology facility in the Northern Territory, providing a broad spectrum of cancer care treatments, such as medical oncology, surgical oncology, haematology, pathology, radiology, and palliative care. WGA provided structural services for the new building, which includes a bunker to house radiation equipment associated with two linear accelerators. WGA worked closely with the client and contractor to develop an innovative precast outer skin solution to simplify bunker construction, reduce project costs and lower the risk of radiation leaks. During the commissioning process, the bunkers passed integrity testing to demonstrate that the requirement for crack free concrete was achieved.
