WGA with Exact Mining Contractors, were engaged by DIPL to undertake concept and detailed design for the reconstruction and reseal of the Tanami Road, Chainage 226.00 to 243.33km. Tanami Road is a two lane arterial road from Alice Springs to the Kimberly. Previously it was sealed to the start chainage of this project, at CH226.00, with the existing road within this area consisting of a two-way unsealed 'track'.

The scope of works included concept and detailed design of the 17km road extent to allow the sealing of the road. This included the detailed design of the horizontal and vertical alignment for a 130km/h design speed, the provision of floodways where required, and the pavement design based on the geotechnical assessment of the existing material on site.  This project demonstrates WGA’s expertise in the design delivery of rural roads in remote locations with consideration to construction issues and the location and treatment of floodways.

The concept design included the horizontal and vertical alignment for a design speed of 130km/h, with consideration of the lands under the Aboriginal Area Protection Authority (APAA) control.  This project demonstrates WGA’s expertise in the design delivery of rural roads in remote locations with consideration to construction issues and the location and treatment of floodways
