The Project

WGA undertook a Traffic Assessment for the proposed expansion and upgrade of the Whyalla Steelworks. The Assessment provided an analysis of the current, proposed, construction and future traffic impacts to determine road infrastructure requirements both internal and external to the proposed upgraded Whyalla Steelworks.

Technical Solutions

A large amount of data was collected, reviewed, modelled and analysed for the existing, execution and operational phases. This data was processed and used to develop a complete multi model micro simulation model of the entire site and surrounds. The use of this model provided visual outcomes of the assessment of different phases that is easily interpreted and acted on the client. The model was developed to be agile and easily allow adjustments to address any concerns that were raised, particularly for the future planning of proposed plan upgrades.

Client Focus

The traffic team was supported by our local Whyalla staff to refine the proposal in collaboration with the client to determine the current and proposed plant operations, inputs and outputs and proposed options to model. Feedback from the client was that the assessment report and model provided clear, simple easy to action outcomes of high quality that exceeded their brief requirements. This could not have been achieved without the local presence and strong client relationship, regular feedback sessions, and excellent communication fostered between all involved.
