Specialisation: South Australia, reactive clays, and wind farm foundation design
As head of WGA’s Geotechnical Engineering section, Roger brings over 35 years local experience in geotechnical investigations, ground characterisation and footing design.
Recognised as one of South Australia’s most knowledgeable and respected Geotechnical Engineers, Roger’s extensive portfolio includes; deep excavations and retention systems, foundation design for multi-storey commercial, industrial and maritime structures, ground improvement techniques and pavement design.
Roger is passionate about projects where he is involved in the total duration, particularly those that demand a variety of comprehensive engineering capabilities. The Goodwood Junction Rail separation is one of these milestone projects, as Roger was involved from the initial tender and continued through to the design phase and construction overview. In addition, both the Common User Facility and the Torrens Road to River Torrens projects have provided Roger with the opportunity to delve in to projects that required innovative thinking and the application of a diverse range of engineering proficiencies. The Common User Facility comprised ship lift, sheet piled walls, piled slabs and dredging, whilst the South Road upgrade involved the design of a soil nail retention system, used to provide a more sustainable design compared to a conventional piled wall.
Roger has built a successful reputation for his work in the geotechnical field and has applied his expertise to many projects of varying size and complexity both in South Australia and across the country. Working collaboratively with peers and stakeholders from conception to completion, Roger enjoys the intricacies and nuances that come with the nature of this specialised field. His interest lies in reactive clays, earthworks, spread footing design, piles and retaining walls.
Roger’s project experience includes:
- Rundle Place Redevelopment, SA
- UniSA Health Innovation Building, SA
- Port River Expresway
- Southern Expressway Stages 1 and 2
- Techport Development, Osborne SA
