WGA structural engineer Jessica McGovern was recently invited to speak at a site tour for the UTurn Construction Pathways group at Adelaide Women’s Prison (AWP).
The AWP UTurn Constructions Pathways program provides opportunities for incarcerated women to gain real-life skills and training, providing pathways into employment in the construction industry upon their release. The group is made up of 12 women who are currently serving sentences at the AWP, with their program centered around the works currently taking place as part of the Accommodation Upgrade project there.
Jessica spoke to the group about her pathway into the industry from a consulting perspective as well as her experience as a woman in the industry. The group also went on a site tour of the AWP Accommodation Upgrade site which WGA is currently providing structural and civil engineering for.
