BHP has engaged WGA to act as client-side engineers for the Nelson Point. Stage 3 Demolition project in Port Hedland. We have been involved in this project since the Identification Phase Study in early 2018 and are pleased to see some significant milestones achieved.
The project includes the demolition and rehabilitation of a number of end-of-life facilities to reduce risks associated with retaining and maintaining deteriorating assets. WGA has provided electrical, instrumentation and controls design services for the zero energy and relocation work, as well as heavy lifting, demolition and structural engineering design. Having been involved in several earlier projects at Nelson Point, WGA is acutely aware of the challenges in executing demolition work at the operational site.
We are currently providing advice to BHP through the execution phase. This project is progressing well, with contractor Monadelphous having removed both high-level control towers prior to cyclone season.
