Housed inside the centuries-old St George’s church, the centre has been a learning ground for the budding creative artists of the Performance Arts Program of St Michael’s Grammar School for many years.

Playing into WGA’s strength in offering long-lasting and creative solutions, we worked with Kneeler Design Architects and SJ Higgins Group to transform the majestic heritage building to accommodate a vision of a futuristic performance facility.

Our work on this project took many forms including the design of the new tiered seating structure, support of extensive theatre equipment from the heritage timber roof structure and civil design of the new landscape works. Careful planning, and collaboration efforts helped to balance the many needs of the performance artists, the school, and the historic building site.

The results saw curtains rising in a 147-year-old heritage church equipped with the brilliance of new lights, sound, and auditorium setting to enrapt the audience in an experience on par with that of a grand opera house.
