Wallbridge Gilbert Aztec (WGA) is deeply saddened to announce the passing of its esteemed co-founder, Geoff Wallbridge, who passed away peacefully on 29 May 2025.

A proud South Australian and one of Australia’s most respected engineers, Geoff’s legacy is foundational to WGA and the broader engineering community. Over a career spanning more than four decades, Geoff’s technical excellence and visionary leadership helped shape some of the most iconic infrastructure projects in South Australia — including the Myer Centre redevelopment, Adelaide Oval, and the new Royal Adelaide Hospital.

Geoff’s influence extended far beyond major projects. He was a passionate advocate for community-focused engineering, generously contributing his time and expertise to initiatives such as the suspension footbridge in Penneshaw, Kangaroo Island — a project that exemplified his belief in engineering as a force for public good.

Together with Mark Gilbert, Geoff founded Wallbridge and Gilbert in 1982, operating from a modest converted brewery in Adelaide. Their shared vision and commitment to excellence laid the foundation for what would become WGA — a multidisciplinary engineering firm with national and international reach.

Geoff was instrumental in expanding WGA’s footprint, including the establishment of a strategic partnership with Rodeghiero Fong and Partners (RFP) in Darwin, which led to the full integration of WGA’s Darwin team. He also played a key role in the growth of the Melbourne office following the acquisition of Lange Dame Campbell (LDC).

Beyond his professional achievements, Geoff was a mentor, innovator, and leader who embodied the values of integrity, humility, and collaboration. He was known for his pragmatic approach to engineering, his deep care for people, and his ability to inspire those around him. His legacy lives on in the culture and values that define WGA today.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to Geoff’s wife Jill, children Tess and Tom and his extended family.

Geoff Wallbridge’s contributions to engineering and to WGA will continue to inspire generations to come.

Rest well, Geoff.
