WGA AU | Wallbridge Gilbert Aztec - Building Information Modelling

WGA has achieved Building Information Modelling Tier Level 4 under the Department for Infrastructure and Transport (DIT) Building Projects Pre Qualification Framework, placing us among the first consulting practices in South Australia to be awarded this level of BIM capability.

The Tier Level 4 accreditation confirms WGA’s ability to deliver Building Information Modelling (BIM) services on highly complex government building projects, including projects in excess of $250 million, across the full DIT building program.

This achievement builds on WGA’s long-standing DIT Tier Level 3 Engineering prequalification and reflects the continued maturity of the firm’s digital engineering capability across the DIT regime.

A proven Building Information Modelling track record on major projects

For more than a decade, WGA has been delivering Building Information Modelling on South Australia’s most significant and technically complex building projects. This includes the $2 billion Royal Adelaide Hospital, one of the first major health projects in Australia to adopt BIM, along with a wide range of civic, defence and commercial developments delivered in highly collaborative, multi consultant environments.

Across these projects, WGA’s models are relied upon by contractors for construction phasing, coordination, quantity takeoffs, shop drawing production and constructability reviews. This experience has shaped WGA’s approach to BIM delivery, ensuring models are developed with clarity of purpose and built to support downstream use from the outset.

Working closely with lead consultants, architects and contractors, WGA routinely contributes to the development of BIM Execution Plans, establishing clear information requirements, responsibilities and coordination processes early in the project lifecycle. Some key projects include:

Australian Bragg Centre for Proton Therapy and Research

Flinders University Health and Medical Research Building

Alignment with ISO 19650

A key component of the Tier Level 4 assessment was WGA’s demonstrated understanding and application of AS ISO 19650, the international standard for information management using BIM.

WGA’s BIM delivery is underpinned by:

  • Structured information management frameworks
  • Clearly defined roles, responsibilities and workflows
  • Controlled Common Data Environments (CDEs)
  • Disciplined model coordination and data exchange processes

This ISO aligned approach supports consistent, reliable and traceable information management from project inception through to handover, reducing risk and improving outcomes for clients.

Why Building Information Modelling matters for DIT

Building Information Modelling is more than a 3D model. When implemented effectively, it is a critical process that supports:

  • Collaboration across large, complex project teams
  • Early identification and resolution of design and construction risks
  • Improved cost, time and quality certainty
  • Long-term asset performance and lifecycle value

A well governed BIM Execution Plan, supported by experienced practitioners, is essential to realising these benefits, particularly on major government projects.

Positioned for future DIT projects

DIT is progressively implementing its Building Information Management Capability Framework, with BIM requirements becoming mandatory for professional services contractors from January 2026.

Achieving BIM Tier Level 4 confirms WGA’s ability to deliver all required BIM outcomes for DIT building projects of any value, providing confidence to government clients as digital engineering expectations continue to evolve.

This milestone reflects WGA’s sustained investment in its people, systems and processes, and reinforces our role as a trusted partner in delivering South Australia’s most significant building projects.
