The Project
WGA supported the optimisation of Woolworths’ Direct to Boot service (DTB) across stores nationwide. With a critical focus on functionality and risk assessment, our engineers were engaged to deliver traffic and transport engineering services that improved site access, flow, and safety for both customers and Woolworths team members.
Technical Solutions
To ensure a smooth, safe, and efficient experience for Woolworths’ DTB service, WGA’s traffic and transport team efficiently completed 220 individual site assessments across Australia. Key focus areas included:
- Pedestrian and Team Member Safety:
Dedicated shared zones, safety bollards, and well-placed crossings were introduced to separate pedestrian movement from vehicle access, safeguarding Woolworths staff and customers from high-risk areas such as accessways and DTB bays. - Traffic Calming Recommendations:
Measures like speed humps, zebra crossings, and raised pedestrian crossings were installed to reduce vehicle speed in critical areas around DTB zones, improving safety for both pedestrians and drivers. - Traffic Flow and Layout Risk Assessments:
Our team assessed existing traffic patterns and car park layouts to identify and resolve conflict points—locations where pedestrian and vehicle paths intersect, contributing to smoother traffic flow and reduced risk of collisions. - Safety and Visibility Enhancements:
The installation of adequate lighting, clear signage, and road markings ensures safer navigation for all users, enhances overall visibility, and reduces the likelihood of accidents, while surveillance infrastructure improves site monitoring.
