Astrid Hagqvist is an accomplished infrastructure leader and Chartered Engineer with over 17 years of experience contributing to some of Australia’s most significant transport projects. What began as a passion for problem-solving has evolved into an impressive career in engineering encompassing a diverse array of roles—from client-side advisory and assurance to delivery and operations.
As the Joint Regional Manager, Astrid is instrumental in shaping WGA’s future across Melbourne and Tasmania. Her strategic vision and leadership extend to her role on the Executive Leadership Team to drive Australia and New Zealand operations.
Throughout her career, Astrid has consistently pursued projects that create positive, lasting impacts on communities. She has led multi-disciplinary teams on complex, city-shaping initiatives such as Peninsula Link, the Suburban Rail Loop, Level Crossing Removals, and disaster recovery efforts in Queensland. Whether improving connectivity, enhancing safety, or building resilience, she consistently applies a blend of technical excellence and strategic foresight to everything she endeavours.
Astrid is a people-centric leader who values collaboration and finds working alongside smart, innovative colleagues one of the most rewarding aspects of her role. Her leadership style, combined with her unique consulting experience, enables her to navigate complex stakeholder environments with ease.
In addition to her professional work, Astrid proudly serves as an Army Reserve Officer, where she has gained valuable experience in Defence projects and military leadership. She is also an active member of the Roads Australia community and a graduate of its Fellowship program. Known for the impactful projects she delivers, Astrid strives to build an inclusive, innovative, and learning-focused culture at WGA.
