Porsche Centre Gold Coast Redevelopment

WGA AU | Wallbridge Gilbert Aztec - Porsche Centre Gold Coast Queensland WGA

The Project

Located in Queensland, the Porsche Centre Gold Coast has undergone a significant upgrade, transforming the flagship showroom into a state-of-the-art destination. WGA was engaged to deliver structural and civil engineering services for the refurbishment, with a focus on integrating new elements into the existing building.

The project involved retaining the existing primary steel framing, footings, and slab-on-ground, while delivering key upgrades including a new façade, roof cladding, mezzanine level, and carwash facility, enhancing both the functionality and visual identity of the centre.

Technical Solutions

A key challenge of the project was balancing preservation with enhancement, ensuring the existing structure could support new architectural and operational requirements without compromising performance or compliance.

WGA undertook a detailed structural assessment of the existing steel framing to verify its capacity to accommodate a new mezzanine and a complex façade system, developing targeted strengthening and detailed solutions to integrate the new elements seamlessly with the retained structure.

The façade design required precise coordination with the retained structure to achieve both structural performance and architectural intent.

Along the eastern boundary, a 3.5 m-high retaining wall and adjacent slab-on-ground were found to be severely compromised due to poor drainage. As the extent of damage was not immediately visible, staged investigations were undertaken, ultimately determining that both elements required full replacement. WGA verified footing capacity in accordance with current Australian Standards and designed new retaining wall footings and replacement slabs.

Client Focus

WGA worked closely with Porsche and the architects to deliver a solution that maximised the value of the existing asset while enabling significant functional and aesthetic upgrades. By retaining the primary structural elements where feasible, the design approach supported cost efficiency and minimised disruption.

A proactive, solutions-focused approach enabled the team to respond effectively to unforeseen site conditions, ensuring the delivery of a safe, compliant, and fit-for-purpose outcome.
