The Project
A lithium-ion battery materials producer engaged WGA in a data management solution scoping project to assess and improve how data was managed across its laboratory and pilot plant operations. Information was spread across spreadsheets, logbooks, shared servers, and disconnected systems, creating risks around data integrity, version control, and traceability, and limiting visibility of how data moved through the organisation.
Technical Solutions
We facilitated an on-site scoping workshop to speak directly with staff, observe day-to-day processes, and document how data was captured and used on the ground. This produced a detailed workflow diagram mapping roles, data flows, and inefficiencies across lab and pilot plant operations.
With that foundation in place, WGA evaluated two pathways: off-the-shelf Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) and Electronic Lab Notebook (ELN) platforms, and a staged custom-built solution. Each option was assessed against functionality, scalability, security, cost, and implementation risk, and set out in a clear side-by-side comparison to support evidence-based decision-making.
Client Focus
By mapping its data landscape, our client is now equipped for better decision-making and a clearer view of its data, with a structured roadmap that delivers immediate improvements through to longer-term digital transformation. The results – streamlined data workflows, stronger data governance, and more efficient and sustainable laboratory operations supporting their role in the development of green energy technologies.
