The Project
The Godinymayin Yijard Rivers Arts & Culture Centre (GYRACC) in Katherine, Northern Territory is a community-owned cultural facility and a cornerstone of the NT Arts Trail. WGA was engaged by Troppo Architects to deliver civil and structural engineering services for a major upgrade of the Centre.
Technical Solutions
The outdoor amphitheatre is the centrepiece of the upgrade, featuring a covered performance stage with integrated power, sound and lighting support. WGA delivered the structural designs for this space within a reconfigured outdoor precinct to accommodate approximately 800 people to support large-scale events as well as everyday community use.
Civil works included landscaped outdoor spaces, paved areas, perimeter fencing, a pedestrian bridge feature, and a new gravel service road.
The auditorium was extended and upgraded with a larger stage, operable walls, compliant kitchen facilities and provision for retractable raked seating. Gallery and administrative areas were expanded and reconfigured, with new lighting, storage, joinery and audiovisual upgrades, alongside site-wide works, including a landmark entry, signage, and assessments of solar, BMS, IT and security upgrades.
Client Focus
WGA worked closely with the project team to deliver coordinated, multi-disciplinary engineering solutions aligned with GYRACC’s operational requirements and the community values the Centre represents.
This project also demonstrates WGA’s capability to deliver infrastructure in regional and remote regions, within a live facility environment and under a government-funded program.
Godinymayin Yijard Rivers Arts & Culture Centre is now equipped with the infrastructure needed to anchor the NT Arts Trail in Katherine for years to come.
