WGA has been engaged by Environment Canterbury Regional Council to undertake a study into the Groundwater Replenishment Scheme for the Hinds Catchment in Canterbury, NZ.

WGA is involved in the second stage of developing a Groundwater Replenishment Scheme for the Hinds Catchment.  The Hinds/Hekeao Managed Aquifer Recharge (MAR) pilot trial was designed and implemented to evaluate the use of purposeful recharge to help replenish declining groundwater levels, restore flows in the coastal drains and improve water quality in the underlying aquifer.

This is the second year of investigating MAR options for the purposes of improving both water quality and quantity in the catchment.  The project will focus on evaluating the effects of continuing to infiltrate water via the pilot trial infiltration basin (with a nominal capacity of 113 L/s), identifying ways to increase infiltration from the basin, and working with the community to expand investigations to look at other potential MAR sites.

WGA NZ is supporting the project with local and international MAR expertise.
