The Project
Hutchison Ports, a global leader in port operations, runs two major facilities in Australia: Berths 11 and 12 at the Port of Brisbane and Terminal 3 at Port Botany in Sydney. In 2022, WGA was engaged to provide structural and mechanical engineering inspections for Hutchison Ports’ quay cranes and automated stacking cranes, including associated spreaders and crane lifting attachments at both sites.
Technical Solutions
WGA engineers were able to target critical areas of the equipment during inspections by leveraging our significant national crane and port facility design experience.
To streamline the inspection process, the team utilised state-of-the-art drone technology to access hard-to-reach areas. They also leveraged SaaS applications like Fulcrum to accurately record inspected items, locate previously inspected items from prior years, and reduce the time spent on-site, resulting in a more effective inspection regime
WGA also provided expert advice on the level of repairs required to ensure the most cost-effective remediation approach for each crane. All inspections and repair works were completed under the direct supervision of CPEng and RPEQ-accredited engineers.
Client Focus
A key goal of this partnership was to establish a strong, collaborative relationship with Hutchison Ports, focused on delivering reliable and safe engineering solutions in what can be a high-risk industry.
In addition to inspections, WGA provided engineering advice on the most cost-effective repair strategies for each crane.
