
Joris Jorissen Coastal and Ocean Technical Lead

Joris is a civil engineer with over 20 years of experience in the fields of coastal and marine engineering, coastal zone management and port development and maintenance. He is an experienced design manager who has provided leadership to numerous complex coastal engineering and port infrastructure projects around the world, including Australia, New Zealand, Europe, Africa, Asia, US, the Middle East and the Pacific.
His expertise includes design of coastal structures (in particular breakwaters, revetments, reclamations and scour protection systems), dredging and the assessment (and modelling) of coastal and estuarine processes, particularly in relation to hydrodynamics, waves and sediment transport.
Originally from the Netherlands, Joris worked in the UK and the Netherlands for some years before coming to Australia in 2006 and joining WGA in 2022. He enjoys WGA’s collaborative team approach, applying a diverse set of minds to solve the unique challenges presented by working in the coastal environment.
Joris is a Member of PIANC, the World Association for Waterborne Transport Infrastructure.
