Russell Burns Defence & Space Lead - NT
DWN

Russell is a civil engineering generalist with expertise in roads, pavements, earthworks, stormwater, and water and sewer infrastructure. He has delivered multidisciplinary projects from master planning and detailed design to construction and maintenance. Known for asking ‘why,’ Russell aims to understand client objectives to provide practical, fit-for-purpose solutions.

Upon completion of Bachelor of Engineering, Russell moved to Darwin to kick start his career. Originally planning to stay for a year or two, he fell in love with the lifestyle and is still there more than a decade later. Since joining WGA in 2018, he has thrived in diverse projects across the Northern Territory, including Defence, private developments, public infrastructure, and remote communities.

Russell is driven by the positive impact of essential infrastructure projects, like the Sewer Network Upgrade in Weemol, which dramatically improved health and living conditions for the residents. A highlight was the design and construction of $117 million of civil infrastructure in under 12 months at Delamere Air Training Range, showcasing what’s possible with teamwork and collaboration.

At home, Russell enjoys time with his three young children, playing guitar, following the AFL (go Crows!), and laughing with friends at the foreshore..
