The Project
Adelaide Airport’s Project Flight is a $600 million program of works focused on upgrading the terminal and surrounding facilities, and the landside precinct, to support future growth and enhance the passenger experience.
Works are being delivered within a complex live operational environment and include a 1500m2 expansion of the check-in hall to boost check-in capacity by 25%, a 10,000m2 expansion of the northern end of the terminal to cater for three new domestic gate lounges and aviation office space, a 5,500m2 expansion to the southern end of the terminal adding two new domestic gates and three regional gates, upgrades to security screening and aircraft parking capacity.
Technical Solutions
WGA was engaged as a longstanding engineering partner to Adelaide Airport. Our solution was to implement a highly coordinated, staged design and construction plan which ensured minimal impact on the more than nine million passengers who use the airport every year.
We were engaged to provide:
- Structural engineering services to design the new built form including modifications of, and interfacing with, the existing terminal structure.
- Civil Engineering services for stormwater drainage and earthworks to the buildings and landside civil infrastructure.
- Traffic planning and modelling to improve vehicle circulation, passenger flow and pedestrian safety
- Geotechnical investigations and reporting to understand and address variable & complex ground conditions.
Client Focus
Working closely with Adelaide Airport, WGA supports the delivery of a more efficient, resilient and passenger-focused environment. The upgrades improve the flow of people and vehicles, reduce congestion during peak travel times and contribute to a smoother, more intuitive airport experience. WGA’s involvement helps ensure the airport continues to evolve as a key gateway for South Australia, supporting economic growth and future demand.
