The Project

Northern Star Resources’ Jundee gold mine is an underground mining operation located in the Northern Goldfields region in Western Australia, approximately 520km north of Kalgoorlie. In collaboration with Zenith Energy, WGA provided civil, structural, and geotechnical engineering to install four wind turbines at the Goldfields northeast of Wiluna to help the mine decarbonise its operations.

Technical Excellence

Our team conducted geotechnical investigations and survey works, completing the design in-house. The project progressed smoothly through the design phase, during which our teams implemented a unique wind turbine foundation design that contributed significantly to the project’s success.

Hybrid Renewable Energy Solution

The completed windfarm integrates a hybrid renewable energy solution combining wind energy, solar power, and the existing gas power station to provide reliable and continuous energy to mine operations. This solution reduces reliance on fossil fuels and greenhouse gas emissions by up to 56%.

Client Outcomes

With the project complete as of late 2024, there are now four Goldwind 6MW turbines, a 17MW solar farm, and a 12MW 13.4 MWh battery energy storage system, making this Australia’s most inland windfarm! Our project stands as a testament to innovation and sustainability in engineering.
