The Project
A rail-mounted iron ore stacker at a major mine in the Pilbara was experiencing rail misalignment and no longer met the requirements of Australian Standards. Over time, misaligned rails can lead to increased structural stress and fatigue on the stacker, and potentially even derailment. As the only lump stacker on site, the equipment was critical to operations, prompting a detailed investigation.
Technical Solutions
WGA was engaged to assess the cause of the misalignment and identify practical options to replace the rail foundations and improve site drainage. The work included a review of existing survey data, design documentation, and geotechnical reports. Additional geotechnical investigations were carried out, and several design options were developed to address both the foundation and drainage issues.
Client Focus
WGA provided several concept design options and associated construction approaches, enabling the client to assess the most practical and cost-effective solution. Our work supported planning for future remediation and improvements, with a focus on enhancing the safety, reliability and compliance of this critical asset.
