Corné Engelbrecht Water Lead - WA
PER

Corné grew up in a small town in central South Africa, an arid region where droughts and water shortages were a persistent challenge. This early exposure to water scarcity and the importance of conservation inspired him to pursue a career in sustainable water resource management.

Holding a Master’s degree in Hydrogeology, Corné has worked in the groundwater consulting industry for over a decade and is a member of the International Association of Hydrogeologists. In 2023, he relocated to Australia and joined WGA, where he values the opportunity to collaborate within multidisciplinary teams, leveraging collective expertise to drive innovation in water management.

Among the highlights of his career, Corné has contributed to the design of Managed Aquifer Recharge (MAR) systems for major infrastructure projects, including the North East Link Tunnels in Victoria and the Silvergrass East MAR scheme in Western Australia, both of which play a critical role in protecting groundwater-dependent ecosystems.

He is particularly passionate about the potential of MAR, integrating modern technologies and sustainable practices to develop resilient water management solutions that ensure the long-term availability and quality of groundwater resources.
