The Project
WGA have been supporting Pilbara Ports on the planning and design development of the Dampier Cargo Wharf projects since 2019, contributing to a multi-stage upgrade of this critical marine facility in Western Australia’s Pilbara region.
The Dampier Cargo Wharf is a key multi-user port, able to manage bulk cargo, containers, cruise vessels, ro-ro vessels, supply vessels and the export of fertiliser. The staged development approach ensures the port can continue operating efficiently while expanding to meet growing demand.
The project includes three stages:
- Stage 1 – A 200m wharf expansion to the east of the existing wharf for the export of UREA by Perdaman.
- Stage 2 – A 57m link bridge connecting the eastern expansion with the existing wharf to the west.
- Stage 3 – Reconstruction of the existing 216m wharf and approach jetty.
Technical Solutions
WGA has played a crucial role across all stages, delivering reference designs to support design and construct procurement and progressing into detailed design.
The design philosophy is mainly a concrete deck on steel piles made to withstand cyclonic conditions and significant wave uplift loads.
With Stage One in construction with 50% of the piles placed, WGA are appointed as Principal Designer for Stage Two, working in partnership with NRW Holdings and Brady Marine Joint Venture (NBVJ) to deliver the detailed design and construction.
Client Focus
By working closely with project partners, WGA has supported efficient project delivery while minimising disruption, underpinned by technical expertise and clear understanding of operational requirements within the ports and marine environment.
Our teams helped create a future-ready facility that strengthens regional export capability and supports ongoing economic growth.
