James Wehr Mechanical Technical Lead
ADL

James is a Mechanical Engineer with more than 25 years’ experience in the mining, minerals processing, heavy industrial, and manufacturing industries. He credits his interest in this area to growing up on a farm within a family that had a significant involvement in mining. James has extensively applied his expertise to the full project life cycle, from feasibility and concept development, through to project execution, commission and handover.

He has worked on small, plant improvement and complex troubleshooting projects through to multi-billion dollar green field mine expansions. He has well-developed analytical skills for plant component failure and root cause analysis and a sound understanding of technical and statutory standards and publications.

Working in close collaboration with clients to understand their needs, optimise project scopes and execution strategies, James is able to deliver projects that exceed the expectations of stakeholders. James has thoroughly developed skills in design management, plant upgrades, cranes, heavy lifting, complex rigging and materials handling.

James was instrumental in the world-first Pellet Plant Gas Cleaning project in Whyalla. This is a standout in James’ portfolio, as the challenges of a project such as this once thought technically too difficult, were made feasible through a commitment to innovation and excellence. Being on site during the shut down phase and immersing himself in the project from execution to re-commissioning, has been a career highlight for James.

James’ project experience includes:

  • Raise Bore Fans
  • Hematite Tip Pocket
  • Adelaide Brighton Cement, Alternative Fuels Facility
  • Blast Furnace Reline
  • Hope Downs 4 Iron Ore Mine
